News Flash Oil Spill

We interupt this program for a news flash from Emily at School Blogs.

It has happend again!

The Oil Tanker Prestige broke in half and sank off the coast of Spain Tuesday, November 19th around 12:00 noon. It was carrying 20 million gallons of fuel oil. 

Oil is alredy washing ashore on the Spanish Coast, Cape Finister from the damaged ship, the Prestige.

The tanker was damaged last week during a storm.  Cleanup is already under way.  There is a great chance of danger to the wildlife on and off of the shore.

Questions to Ponder

I have seen so many cigarettes on the road and many are still smoking. 434,000 people die from smoking each year. Who is to blame? Well, many people say that movies start this. I agree. In many movies "cool" people smoke. That makes teens think that they will be like the movie stars if they smoke. I know that you can get types of cancer. You can loose your vocal cords. You can still always die.

 

Should some of the moviemakers that portray teen smoking be sued?

 

Many of our neighboring county schools are changing to year-round school. At first, many people hate the idea of it, but it may be better. You would have more vacation days in summer and winter too, but it would also take weeks off our summer vacation.

 

Is a year-round calendar the right choice for Rockdale schools?

 

Everyday many people speed. Some people are not even caught. On a car, look at the speedometer. It goes over 100 miles per hour. Police cars should only have that much speed in them. The highest speed limit that I see is 65, or 70 mph.

 

Should car manufacturers be allowed to make cars that can go twice the legal limit?
