Hearing from May-Ch.11-12-SBC

I've got a couple of "fat" questions for you all. Why do you suppose we haven't heard directly from May herself until the end of the book? How would the story have played out differently if we were to have heard from her in the beginning rather than the end? When we eventually did hear from her were we hearing her speak to Summer in her dreams or what? When May finally talked to Summer, what impact did this have on the book overall?

What do you think- Chapter 6

Who do you think is Summer's Guidance that she spoke about on page 43?

Summer says " But he knew he wasn't doing so good and he still knew enough to be ashamed. That gave me some hope."
Do you think Ob is going to get better?

The story gives Summer's opinion on why Ob overslept. Why do you think he overslept? Do you agree or disagree with Summer? Why?

Moving On-Ch.4-SBC

How do you think Ob will eventually deal with the passing of May? In this chapter Ob seems to open up to Cletus for some afterlife guidance. Will Cletus be able to comfort and connect to Ob in a way that will help him deal with the loss of his wife? Or will this afterlife talk only depress Ob? Explain your thinking.

THE POWER CHAPTER 2 CCT

In Chapter 1, the whirligig called May had all white parts and were grounded in a branch from an oak tree which he said, "...was her power."  I hear the phrase "I've got the power" frequently on television and I work with a woman who says it all the time.  I am not sure what she means, but I think I know what Ob meant when he referred to Aunt May's power.  I think he's talking about the power of love to change things.  What do you think?

Cletus and Ob

I found it very interesting that the way Ob and Cletus met happened when Cletus was trying to steal Ob's car. When Ob saw what Cletus was doing, he went out to investigate. Instead of calling the police or running him off, he invited him in for lunch! I think that on some level Ob connected with Cletus and understood him. He knew that Cletus needed something. I think this Cletus character is going to be very interesting as the story progresses!

Whirligigs? - AN

What do you think the significance of the whirligigs are in the story? What do you think the significance of the whirligigs are to Ob?  Predict whether or not they will be mentioned again in the story and in what way.  Do they have any significance at all?
