Gizmo Chat

My class and I just got finished talking to Mr. K’s class in

Canada

! We used a Gizmo to chat with them! We asked them questions and then they asked us questions! I had a great time talking to them! As others talked to them I took notes, and here's what I wrote!

Chris answered Eddie’s first question- What is some advice you would give to an elementary blogger to stay safe on the Internet?

Vinson answer Eddie’s second question-What are some tips you could share that would help us to be responsible with blogging?

Danny answered Emmy’s first question-We love the Flickr pictures but we can't just go browse. Any suggestions for younger kids to have access to good graphics?

Chris answered M.V.’s first question-What does Pre-BOBulus mean?

?answered M.V.’s second question –What suggestions can you give to help us convince our middle school teachers that we should be allowed to blog in school?

Gram and Richard answer Tina’s first question-What are the best and the worst things about blogging?

Danny and Richard answered Jonny’s first question-How do you use the chat box to learn? Do you use it in school our just at home?

Eddie answered Danny’s question-How does your class use chat boxes?

Eddie answered Achialle’s question-Not sure but I'll find out

We had a great time asking and answering questions! Even though I didn't get to ask or answer any questions but I still listened and I still learned a lot! Oh and I didn't put the responses from the people in Mr.K's class because I want you to answer them.So how would you answer those questions?

Antalicious!

Ever since our wonderful teacher (Mrs.C) told me about the picture on our class blog http://itc.blogs.com/minds/2007/05/lets_have_a_lit.html   I've gone ant crazy! So here's some ant facts!

here the colonies located at? -All study colonies were located at a site about 16 km southwest of Tallahassee, Florida, USA, within the Apalachicola National Forest.

How did they do it? -

The architecture of the nest void was rendered by two methods. In the first, a pit was dug next to the nest and the chambers were exposed horizontally, one at a time, starting from the top. The depth and orientation of each chamber were recorded, its contents collected for later counting and measuring, and its outlines traced on transparent acetate sheets.  This method produced a reasonable rendering of the two-dimensional outlines and spatial distribution of the horizontal chambers, and a complete record of the distribution of ants and seeds within the nest. It did not record the vertical shafts connecting chambers. Except for the details of nest architecture, the results of these excavations have been published (Tschinkel 1998; 1999a; b)

In the second method, the nest void was filled with a thin slurry of orthodontal plaster poured into the nest entrance (Williams and Lofgren 1988). This produced a (usually) perfect three-dimensional rendering of the nest's voids. The hardened cast was excavated and then reassembled to produce the finished cast. For reassembly, chambers were supported with steel rods driven into holes in a backboard. Because the shafts of P. badius are large in diameter, the thin slurry often completely filled a 3 m-deep nest in a single pour. The sandy soils of the Florida coastal plains allow the plaster slurry to displace the air within the chambers, filling them completely. Heavy clay soils often produce incomplete casts and voids within the plaster because of trapped air. Although a few images of the nest casts of several ant species have been published (Tschinkel 2003), the details of the nest architecture of P. badius are presented here for the first time.

Are We There Yet!

My year in blogging is almost up! I can't believe it's almost time for me to move on to the next grade! How in the world has this year in blogging gone by so fast? I even can remember my first day in blogging as if it was just yesterday! By the way, my first day in blogging was a blast! So I'll tell you about it.

The whole class pushed and shoved into the computer room to see what treasure lied ahead! Once we all finally got in the room and found a seat, a woman appeared in the doorway. This lady had short dirty blond hair and a nice pleasant smile. She walked in with an anxious look on her face. All I could think was "Who in the world was this lady?"

With a loud firm voice she said, "Good Morning!" And all at once my classmates and I echoed back to her "Good Morning!"Then she continued and explained, "My name is Mrs.C and I'm your blogging teacher." Then Mr.C told us about herself. And that took a while, trust me! After she was through talking about herself she explained everything to us about blogging! We all listened as if she was telling us that we were from a different world and that we were aliens!

Then we started to tell Ms.D, Mrs.C's assistant, what type of background we wanted to use for our web page. (Ms.D had short black hair and a smile that could light the world!) After that we told Mrs.C what we would like our fake names to be. And I picked the name....... Victoria. Then Mrs.C said "I'm so excited that you are now bloggers!" Then she said "It's time to go!" Then we rushed out of the room thrilled to know we all were bloggers now!

Ever since my first day of blogging I have been learning to write, read, use descriptive words, and to do better in my writing! My teachers and I have seen a big improvement in my writing! But one of my favorite post I've written would have to be the one called "A Whole New World Found By A Girl". You may wonder why my favorite post is this one! Well I like this post because it shows how I have made mistakes and corrected them. And this post is something I liked from the first word I wrote to the last word I wrote!

There has been some things in blogging that I didn't expected. Like when I made this wonderful post that I had checked over twice and I thought it was perfected. But then a couple days later I got a comment that said that I had a few mistakes in my post! I was devastated! So I found the mistakes and fixed them. That day I learned that you can get a friend to check over your work too, because four eyes are better than two eyes any day!

One thing I enjoy doing in blogging is commenting! I like commenting to other people because you get a chance to see what others are writing about and tell them why you like their writing! And I also like getting comments because you can learn what you can do better on by other readers!

To make your writing perfect you have to use six main things! These things are called the six traits of writing which are... Ideas, Conventions, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, and Organization! You can find out more about these things if you go to our class blog! But any ways, the six traits of writing have helped me learn how to write better. The six traits of writing are the main things you need to have a good story!

Even thought blogging can be easy sometimes it can also be hard at other times. For example, one hard time that I've had in blogging is not knowing what I should write about. Doesn't it frustrate you when you don't know what to write about? And one thing that I do not like about blogging is that when you get hooked on what your writing about, sometimes you have to stop and leave blogging class right in the middle of doing something. And when you start off from where you had began last time you forget what you were writing about! It really burns me up that we only have a little bit of time in blogging class. But overall, I think that we should continue blogging in schools because you are learning as your blogging. And because you are being rewarded with comments from your good stories you want to continue blogging. I hope blogging continues in schools.

Why we should blog in schools you may ask? We'll we should blog in schools because blogging is an interesting and wonderful way of learning! And I myself have noticed that I am learning to type faster and write better essays!

Here's some answers to some questions you might ask me about blogging!

Most fun thing that happened in blogging- When we got to talk to the other blogging class over the Internet out loud.

Most exciting thing that happened in blogging- When I got my first comment and made my first post.

Most hilarious thing that happened in blogging- When the boys were talking about all that "Yoshi" stuff. And when they got out a little Yoshi toy that played music!

Most shocking/most aggravating thing that happened in blogging- When all of a sudden the computers shut down while we were in the middle of making a post.

Most surprising thing that happened in blogging- When we found out that Mrs. C would be meeting one of our commenters on a vacation.

Most interesting thing that happened in blogging- When we learned about Google maps and other stuff like that.

Most useful things in blogging- My teachers and friends because they help correct my mistakes and they encourage me.

What are some questions you would like to ask me about blogging?

I have enjoyed the experience of blogging tremendously! And I would recommend blogging to all schools! I hope that you will try blogging some day because you would like it! So all you teachers out there, please let us blog next year! By the way do you like blogging and why do you like it? No mater what you do I encourage you to Go For the Gold!

The Comment I Love!

I have this one comment that  just rocked my socks right off! And can you guess which one it is? We'll it was very hard to decide which comment I liked the most because I loved all the comments I get! But I just had to pick this one! "Just down the glen from where I took this photo there is a small church. It is cold and damp, but very silent and lovely among the trees. So you see your story catches some of the reality behind this picture - well done! " Can you guess who wrote this comment?......    Well if you guessed Chris than you were right! I like this comment so much because I had no clue that Chris takes such beautiful pictures! And I also picked this comment  because Chris comments to me a good bit! I have been to Chris's blog before and I just loved how she used such interesting and catchy words! Chris has also inspired me to write as fluently as she does. Doesn't she write good? But  I still had a hard time picking what my favorite comment! Keep the comments coming! And I'll keep the post going! And buy the way what's your favorite color and story I have wrote?
