Last session!

I don't like good-byes and saying good-bye to this terrific group is especially tough. I'm sitting here in class looking out over all the blogicians and thinking how special each child is. They have been an outstanding group and each one has added so much to our classroom "blogging" community.

Today they are posting letters to their future sixth grade teachers. All of these kids will be heading on to middle school next year. The blogicians are also posting a farewell post so if you get a chance make a comment and wish them well.

I'll be posting a bit more on this class blog. Some other items we've created that we did not have time to put together in a post, some clips from a podcast with Darren Kuropatwa's class in Canada, and other things nestled in my "to do as soon as possible" folder!

All you blogicians know I wish you the best and you know I'll be keeping up with you. You are the best! Remember it's all about possibilities. Go for it!

A letter to Bibi's 6th grade teacher

The blogicians have had a new student come to their class. Bibi is going to use this space to write a letter to her 6th grade teacher!

Dear 6th Grade Teacher,  May 17, 2007

I’m a student at an elementary school and I can’t wait to go to middle school. I hope I get to make lots of new friends. I can’t wait to see what classes I’m going to be in. Sometimes I think about how my teachers are going to be. When I think about going to middle school I get nervous.

I’m a little scared about how everything is going to be. Like are my teachers going to like me? Am I going to do well? Will I get to make friends? Well as much as I think about those things I can’t wait to go to middle school.

I can’t wait to do math. I hope I get to learn new things. Like science, math, social studies, and much more. One thing I’m really exited about is the band. I can’t wait to find out what instrument I’m going to play. Well my future 6Th grade teacher can’t wait to see you.

Sincerely,

Bibi

Shane's Wish

Clarence Fisher points us to Shane's wish. Shane is seven years old. He has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. Shane's wish is to break the world record for the most birthday cards ever received. His goal is 350 million. Let's get on board and help him break that record! His address is listed on the site. Tell your friends about Shane.

I hope all of you reading this blog will join in the effort!Birthdaycardswiki320

BubbleShare

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog.

This is a powerpoint converted to BubbleShare. The powerpoint was created by some fifth graders in a prevous year's class. It was just a handy powerpoint to show you. You can do lots more with pictures, captions, and other techniques. Interested in exploring this tool? You have to be 13 to sign up to use this tool but you could create the pictures and you can help me post them on my account.

A day to create and explore

This is our last week (sniff, sniff). We were creating google maps today, learning the program, and exploring some other tools. One was Flickr Motivator and I know some of you may not get yours posted as this week is one of interruptions, other activities, and taking the time to pursue some learning that we love! I want to share a few from today. Not everybody was able to attend today so don't worry. We'll show you how they were created.

Researcher pours plaster down anthill

Now we have had more fun with this picture and I got several questions about it in class yesterday. They were questions that I did not know the answer to but they got me wondering. One of you wanted to know exactly how the scientist used the plaster. How did it work? How did they get this study done? You were curious about so many things.

I plan to show you how I went about finding the answer. But for now I have a challenge for you. See if you can answer some of the questions you asked by looking through the article. I warn you that it is quite long but don't let that put you off. I found out some fascinating things. You will too!  Have fun! Use the comments feature here to post answers. Any other classes want to join in, feel free! Here is the article link.

Now blogicians you know that we are researching about blogging and how it affects your literacies. Aren't you glad that we didn't have to use plaster in our research? For those who interpret things literally this is an attempt at humor.  :-)

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Victoria

Wow! Victoria has knocked my socks off! She has already written her story about our year of blogging and it is exceptional  Hmmm what can I say? For starters.....

  • The proof is in the pudding for this piece of writing!
  • Victoria has stepped up to the plate!
  • I made lots of pictures in my head while reading her story.
  • I hear her voice!
  • She definitely went for the gold!

Hatsoff
Well done Victoria! I am so proud of you! Victoria earned this special post ! She did her best and even completed it early! How about that? So I give a tip of the blogger's hat to her!

What fun!

It looks like many students from Mr. Powell's class are having fun with pictures with us. Mr. Powell is an English teacher at St. Georges Technical High School in Middletown, Delaware. His class is having conversations about writing and literature. Check out these comments. Don't you love it when other classes join in? Blogging is interactive and engaging in so many ways. I can't wait for you to read their thoughts. Then you will share yours! Think of all the ways we have learned with pictures this year. Visuals really help our learning. I will post what the picture actually is later this morning (after we have fun guessing and sharing our thoughts, of course). What fun!

About "Blogical Minds"
