Number the Stars

Weblog Possibilites - AH

Students and parents could use Weblogs for a way to communicate outside the classroom.  If students are having trouble with a homework assignment, they could post their questions on the Weblog.  Other students or the teacher could respond to the questions to try to help with the assignment.  Parents could make postings to the Weblog to communicate with other parents. 

I think that the Weblogs are great and would like to try to use them in my classroom one day.  The only problem that I see would be in many of the students not having access to the internet at home and/or training the students and parents in how to use and make postings to the Weblog.

Number the Stars Learning Journey (Learning Reflections) TC

I truly enjoyed reading "Number the Stars". I think it is a great book for teachers to introduce in either the fourth or the fifth grade. "Number the Stars" covers every story element indepth; ranging from the significance of the setting, characters, plot, theme, and point of view. As these weblogs come to an end I found a great website full of activities for teachers and students:

I have enjoyed conversing with my classmates through the weblog. However, two postings a week was a little much. As a future classroom teacher, I would require one posting and one comment a week for twelve weeks. The postings became rather repetitive and the comments became artificial.

Just A Little Thought ** Listening Reflections** NC

I really felt like I was apart of the story when the soldiers came in and began asking what the family was doing all together in the living room of Uncle Henrik's house. (Pgs. 84- 85)

He felt that Annemarie's mother was trying to be sarcastic, and then slapped her in the face. I began to feel a little upset, just becasue of how protective I am of my own mother. I am not sure how I would have reacted if I were in that same situation.

Ways To Use In The Class NC-Weblog Possibilities

This activity would be a good way for students to edit each others work.  They can learn how to edit their papers in Microsoft Word, then cut and paste it on the Weblog.  The students can be either partner up, or in groups no larger than five...they could access weblogs wherever they have Internet access and comment on each others papers for class.  By having suggestions from other classmates, the students can gain other ideas on how to improve their paper.
