School Pride: playing a contributing role in maintaining and improving all aspects of a school’s environment, programs and activities within the content of contributing to the betterment of the city, county and state.
Many mornings I begin the day with this announcement over our school intercom. Where is the best school that has the smartest, the kindest, the hardest working, students in the whole wide world? Then we hear the roar of every student voice as that proud cheer...........J.H. HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....... goes soaring throughout our halls. Yes, that’s the sound of the J.H. House eagles, and it makes my heart sing! We care about each other and we love our school!
One of our mottos is "Eagles don't flock, they soar!!!!!!!! We try to do our personal best and that let’s others see that we care. We are proud of our school!
Whatever it takes! That’s another school motto. Everyone does their part, both teachers and students, to do whatever it takes to make our school a place where each and every person is an important piece of what makes J.H. House special. We are connected to each other and to our school. School pride is the vehicle that lets us learn to believe in something bigger than ourselves. Our school has value. It is our home away from home, our community.
It's not just these two things but many things that make up our school pride. We are proud of our school and our students: past, present and future.
School pride is a feeling deep down inside of us. We feel it each morning when we walk through the front doors of our "House". It’s pride, it's caring, it's treating each other with respect and it holds a very special place in our hearts! So, even though you can't define it in one word, you know it when you see it, hear it and feel it. It's alive and well at J.H. House!
Faculty, staff, and students:
Can you think of examples of school pride at our school? I would love to hear your thoughts. It can be a quick write about something you experienced that made you feel school pride, it can be a story about something you saw or felt, it could even be a picture that includes a caption about school pride. Be creative! I can’t wait to hear from you!
If you are reading this weblog and not from our school and would like to leave a comment, please do. Maybe you would like to share examples of school pride that you have seen at your school or any school. We would love to hear from you!
Yes, school pride is alive and well at JH House! As I start my third week as the new Instructional Technology Specialist here at House, I too enter the building with that familiar feeling of “eagle pride” deep inside of me. How can I be so proud of my school this soon? I realized on the first day of pre-planning that I work for a passionate and supportive administration which fosters a sense of motivation and pride among the faculty of JH House. As I walk around the building, excitement of learning echoes throughout the hallways. Teachers are busy instructing while students are focused and interactive in the learning process. Although the overwhelming load of multiple tasks awaits each teacher every morning, they are all happy to be at JH House where the thrill of teaching and learning outweighs other burdens of the job. Who wouldn’t be proud? I am proud to be at a school where administrators are supportive of the entire school family, teachers are motivated to teach, and where students are excited about learning! It is official – I have EAGLE PRIDE!

Just reading this weblog has made me swell with J. H. House pride!! I love seeing the students doing things to keep our school clean. Their industrious polishing off the black marks on the floor (fondly called the J. H. House Shuffle) has become almost rote. Today was a rainy day and the children arrive very drippy. I heard one say as she came in, "Oh no! What will we do! The floor is all wet." Pride in our environment is just one of the assets everyone in our school possesses.

My student Judith shows school pride each day by moving our trash cans toward the door so that our custodians can easily access them when they come to clean our room.

Andrea showed her school pride by taking care of sweeping the floor around her classmates' desks so the custodian wouldn't have so much to do!

Jason noticed that our pencil sharpener was "leaking", so he created a "catch bag" to help keep our school clean. He has a lot of SCHOOL PRIDE!

Kevin Vasquez showed his honesty when he forgot his agenda at home and "gave himself" silent lunch without being told. I bet he won't forget it again.

Amanda is a JHH good citizen! She helps keep our class library organized without being told to do so.

I think school is important because you’re helping your school and yourself. I’ve seen people do the J.H shuffle by cleaning the black marks on the floors with their shoes, and wearing their J.H. shirts.

I show school pride by bragging about my school. I talk about the nice teachers, the clean bathrooms and that they serve good food.

Teachers show alot of school pride by showing up to teach us everyday. Most all of the students also do to because they try to come to school each day to and get knowledge.
