Welcome to a new weblog project! This will be a blog to encourage participation from students and teachers everywhere to get their voices heard! Back in August of 2003 an article, No Time to Study Timely
Events", caught my attention.
Teachers were saying that as much as they desired to discuss what's making headlines, they say there's less and less time in the school day to do so. Mounting pressure to meet state- and nationally mandated curriculum requirements and assessment tests means current events rarely gets discussed thoroughly! Unfortunately, two years later we're still in the same state. It's time to change this!
Let's take the time to talk, discuss, and reflect about what is going on in the world. Let's make connections to the news and encourgage those rich
moments in time when students ask questions and make suggestions about things they really
care about. Let's make connections to what they are
learning, take time to listen to what they are saying and share the joy
of learning together .
I'll post short news blurbs to foster comments. My hope for this blog is that it might open some stimulating conversations that could lead us in a number of directions. If you have current events issues you would like discussed please let me know. Let your voices be heard!
