Critically Thinking About the Novel

Knowledge: When did Kit first meet Hannah?


Comprehension: Contrast Kit's life in Barbados with her life in Wethersfield.


Application: Relate Kit's feelings of isolation in Wethersfield to a time in your own life. How did you feel, and how did you overcome it?


Analysis: Identify the reasons for political unrest in Wethersfield, including ideas from both sides.


Synthesis: Design an alternate ending to the novel.


Evaluation: Is this novel meaningful for students? Explain your answer using examples.

Comprehension:  Compare and contrast Kit's life in Barbados vs. her life in Wethersfield, Connecticut.


Application:  What examples can you find that proves Nathaniel Eaton has Kit's best interest at heart?


Analysis:  What is the overall theme of the story?


Synthesis:  Kit, for the most part, is unhappy with her life in Connecticut.  What changes do you think she could make in order to improve her situation?


Evaluation:  Do you agree with Kit's decision to introduce Prudence to Hannah?  Why or why not?
