Final presentation

I was so impressed with everybody's final project. Our group really came together and shared the responsibility of finishing this presentation. Sunni did the brochure, Stormy the powerpoint, Candice the bulletin boards and the pies while I made the storymap. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed working with these ladies. I liked how this project was kept openended so we could do with it what we wanted. My favorite project (other than our own of course) was when The Giver group reenacted the Ceremony of 12 for us, and by doing so taught us more about the book. Tom played a great Nazi while Joan looked right at home on the farm. If we loved dressing up and presenting our books this much, just think how great our students might feel when they get to own a project of this magnitude to themselves. I felt proud to present our Newbery book project but I feel even more proud that it is COMPLETED!

How might the novel be different if Kit had "helped" with Mercy and John's situation? What would you do if you were in Kit's shoes?

a fat question for you- mbr

In chapter 10, the reader witnesses 17th century predjudice. I believe this would be a good beginning to relate current situations of prejudices with a comparison and contrast. Read page 99 and tell me if there are any situations you can relate to that have happened in your life with those that are happening between Kit and Hannah. I myself had a friend whose parents weren't the nicest people. My schoolmates made fun of the way she dressed, spoke, and lived. One day, Angela didn't come to school. We found out later that the reason was because her mother had been arrested and Angela was in state care. When she came back to school, no one would speak to her at all and would physically move away from her. This is just one type of prejudice. There are others. What are your stories?
