The Great Dough Disaster

Today we had fun at the Wacky Web Tale site!

Last summer, my friend Mike got a job at the brown Pastry Shop. For the first few weeks, he punched the floors, kisseed on the shelves, and unloaded one hundred-pound sacks of flour from the delivery trucks.

Finally, Hilary Duff, the owner, told Mike that she would teach him to make bread. "Now, pay attention, Mike," she said sleepy. "I'll make the first batch of dough. Then you can make the next batch while I go to Dave and Busters."

Poor Mike! He had a habit of letting his eyes wander. When Hilary Duff left for Dave and Busters, he started to mix the ingredients. "Let me see," he said. "I think she put in ten hundred packages of yeast."

A short while later, the dough started bitting. It kept on bitting. Mike tried to cover it with a bat, but the dough wouldn't stop bitting. It was everywhere! "What can I do?" thought Mike.

Just then, Hilary Duff returned from Dave and Busters. " Mike!" she screamed. "What have you done?"

"It's not my fault," cried Mike. "The dough just started bitting and wouldn't stop."

Hilary Duff had to let him go. Now Mike has a job making cats. I don't think he'll ever eat bread again, let alone make it.

A New Flow for Middle Schools!

Weblogging is awesome. We get to blog about the news. I blog about animals, movies, T.V. shows, and global news. Sometimes we blog to Mrs. Davis' s college students. The class gets comments from

people around the world.

In third, fourth, and fifth grade we watched CNN student news. It helps us a lot with weblogging. Like when we write about the news CNN helps us to write more. When I did a report on tsunamis, it helped to look at my CNN notes.

I think that middle schools should have weblogging  because it makes your writing exquisite. Blogging made my writing longer and more interesting. I used to write short stories and didn' t  use  vivid  words. Now I am one of the best writers in class. You could be a great writer, too.

Middle schools kids need help with writing. Some kids can not write well. Weblogging will you a great writer.

Mrs. Davis helped me a lot. She taught us how to make  hyperlinks, use vivid words, not to use the same words, and many more things.

It is fun to blog on the internet. It is like your diary, but better. People love your writings. You get some very nice comments.  I got comments from Pat Street , a famous writer. She writes nice, long comments. So, you could get comments from people that you don' t even know. That is the fun of it.

               All schools should have webloggers.

Late Winter Up North

This is Ashley from JH HOUSE NEWS REPORTER. Todays news is updating cold weather in North Carolina to Maine.  Results of this chilly storm is flight cancellations, schools are closing, and the need to clear snow covered roads.

Some towns were buried in six-foot tall drifts in Massachusetts. Part of Blue Ridge Mountians were covered in one foot of snow. Clifton, New Jersey is only getting six inches.

So get your coat on before going outside. You should really bundle up!

Next up is ID  ME. I am the transfer of a court case to another court case:

                                          A change of venue

                                          B lawyer

                                          C Supreme Court

                                           Answer -  change of venue

And that's it from JH HOUSE REPORTERS!

My Passion for Basketball

Ashleys_drawing What do I love ....... I love basketball. I can throw a lay-up, alley-hoop, and a three pointer. Making a shot is easy. I can make a lot with out stopping. Anybody can play basketball. It is easy to shot with one hand. My favorite team is Miami Heat. My favorite player is Shaquille O'neal.

I always play basketball with my friends. I beat them sometimes. They don't like when I tell them to check the ball. They say let's just play. I still tell them to check.

In basketball you have to know how high to jump in order to shot the ball correctly. You should never get to close to the goal because the won't go in the hoop. Once you become a pro you can do a lot more tricks. I can dribble in between my legs.

Felling Pretty Special

     Hi, Pat Street

I got your comment that you gave on my post called Spilling The Beans. I like your book called There's A Frog In My Throat. I liked it a lot. There were a lot of idoms that I did not know about.  I thought "as mad as a wet hen" was very funny! The idoms about the dogs were really good. What inspired you to make a idiom book?

I wrote a poem to the  Anthology of Poetry. It was about a toad. I started to write poetry in third grade. I always thought that I didn't like it. Now I love poetry.

Mrs. Davis found a book about what "spilling the beans" means. It tells a lot about it. I thought the description was very vivid. You should go to the class weblog and read it. It might give you a better definition.

I was the first student in our blog class to get a comment from you. I feel special. Yes, I have recovered from my accident. I want to read more of your books. They sound interesting.

                                       Thank You,

                                        Sincerely, Ashley

What We Learned In Weblogging

Since the beginning the year weblogging has been a great experience. The very first thing we posted was called "My first Post". We get to write about a lot of current events. I write about movies, world news, and persuasive pieces. I like to write on the blog.

I like to blog because you have a voice. You can express yourself. You could get comments from people all over the world. I got a comment from a person in Japan, Canada, and college students.

In class Mrs. Davis and Ms. Meeler taught us a lot. We learned how to make a hyperlink, use vivid words, do not use the same word over again, do not start every sentence with "the", and many more things.

When we write our blogs we sometimes get comments. I write a lot of comments . Sometimes I write three to four in one day. I like to write comments. You can tell people positive things about their writings. If they made a couple of mistakes, you should let them know. After you do that you should tell how much you liked their writing.

Recall a time that you remember about one of your classes.

Learning Something New!

Today we learned some new skills and what blogging really means. Blogging is when I read someone’s writing and respond to it. When we first walked in we read our comments. I felt good today because I got comments from people that I do not know. To me, that’s inspirational. I got comments from Ms. Allgood, Ms. Lucky from Canada,  Ashley, and Ms. Risher. That is awesome. Then we went to the “Write Weblog”, in other words the class blog. Mrs. Davis read to the class her post for this week. We talked about how to create a hyperlink. After that we went to her class’ blogs at Georgia State University's website for blogs.

That blog is called "Teachers & Technology". We found some interesting writings, but we couldn’t get into everyone’s blog. That was disappointing.  We took pieces of their blog and commented on it in word. We use word when we learn something new.  We learned how to link to one specific post. Hyperlinks can be made on weblogs. Today was an incredible learning day.

Here's my first try at blogging. I hope you like it. This is what I read on Sara's weblog:

"I love that students such as Ashley are able to express themselves using technology through the weblog. It is an excellent tool and exposes children to technology, which of course is an ever-growing part of today's society."

I like that Sara thinks that the weblog is an excellent tool for kids. Writing on the blog helps me talk more. I like to write long stories on the blog. Doesn’t everybody like the weblog? Maybe you should give your students a choice when you do activities. All kids like choices. Maybe one day we can meet and I can give some more advice on teaching.

Dear Teacher-To-Be

Dear Teacher-To-Be,

My name is Ashley. My weblogging teacher is Mrs. Davis. We talked about how you all want to be teachers. I think that is cool.

You should be enthusiastic when you teach. Kids like exciting methods. If you wonder why they sleep in class, it is because they are bored.

You should always give examples and let them work it out. Most children love to write on the black board or the white board. In my class we have so much fun with the white board.

We learn really fast with fun methods. Say like less talk, more action. In my fourth grade class Mr. Batlle helped us study in a fun way for a reading test. We went into the K station and made a movie. The story was like a script from a play. It was so much fun. Maybe you could do something like that.

Blooms Taxonomy is fun to remember. The words are Keep Calm At All Sports Events. The real words are Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation.

A way to keep your mind and body working together is to look at the board and imagine an eight note. Then imagine a mouse running around it. Ask your students what colors they are. It is fun and gets you thinking.

I hope get far in teaching. Good luck.

Spilling the Beans

Ashley_3On my birthday my little brother Eddie spilled the beans about my cake. My mom told to be quiet as a mouse, but it did not work.

Spilling the beans is when you give away a secret. You can make people really mad when you do that. Do you get mad when that happens?

One year I had a kid in my class and he always spilled the beans. The whole class jumped down his throat every single time. To me it was hysterical. I cracked up laughing. Other times I screamed with them.

Sometimes I spill the beans because it is hard to keep your mouth shut. I saw a show and this boy was hard at keeping a secret. His friends were having a party for his best friend, Tommy. He got all sweaty when he saw Tommy, but he never spilled the beans.

Explain a time when you spilled the beans.

Warmer Temperatures Causes Alaska to Sink

Everthing is collapsing. Houses collapse, trees fall over, and giant potholes in the ground. Could Alaska be sinking ?

Scientist think they know what happened. Warmer temperatures may be causing Alaska's frozen ground to thaw. Almost eight-five percent of Alaska's land surface has permafrost. Permafrost is a part of the ground that is always frozen.

Permafrost supportsthe ground above it. That includes trees, houses, and roads. If the permafrost thaws, the round can collapse.

" When huge pieces in permafrost , which can be as large as a house, melt the ground collapses and big holes form. Where there is a house where the holes form, the house collapses, too. Then there are huge pot holes, " Gunter Weller of the Cooperative Institute for Artic Research said.

But why is the permafrost thawing ?

Some scientist say that human-caused pollution is leading to global warming. Most scientist agree that Alaska has been getting warmer. They say the warmer temperature is causng permafrost to thaw in some areas.
