Well, this blogging year is almost over, and as it ends, I will cry. Although, I have very, very good memories while blogging, I will miss it very much. I have compiled these reflections on blogging, so hopefully,..........I'll still remember how to blog over the summer. Wow, I remember the Thursday when Mrs. Poole, our assistant principal, came up to me and asked me if I wanted to join the weblog group again this year. I happily agreed. Well, I even remember when I first joined the group last year, but I guess I'll leave that and return back to my thoughts. For the first couple of weeks, we blogged on Mrs. Davis's blog, while she created ours. It was hectic for the first couple of weeks, because everybody except Jenny, Derrick, and I were new with blogging. I felt proud to know about blogging. The day we got our blogs, we spent all day marveling over them. OK, maybe not ALL day, but for most of it. After our first post everything went smoothly, except trying to teach the new people to copy and paste your writing somewhere else before posting. Our group has been through some tough times. First Keith left our group, then there was Juana. Yoceline moved, but we have been trying to still blog with her. Also, Murphy has been let loose in our lab countless times, but we have struggled to survive. Our losses have been sad, but we have gained Amber, Angelica, and Noe. Although struggling, our group has gained more friends, more opportunities, and we were given an experence we will never forget. My feelings on weblogging has changed throughout these 2 years. In 4th grade, I used to think that it was just another place to get more homework. Now, I'm sad if I don't get homework! I enjoy writing and in the future, I hope to help with a high school newspaper, or become a author, or even a journalist! I hope blogging will be a main part of my future! Writing + Blogging = My life. Emily
Woo Hoo! Today has been really rushed! I'm really happy though because muy writing (Blissful Blogging) was posted up on SuperThinker's Blog! We now interrupt your program Blogging with Bob, to bring you this special report, Blissful Blogging!
Hi! My name is Emily and I am going to tell you helpful tips & pointers on blogging, some great leads, and why I like blogging.
Well, I have been blogging for two years now. I have learned some tricks of the trade. First of all, you can never have too long of a story, but you can always have too short of a story. What I call a short story (way too short) is about 5-7 sentences. If six really good sentences is all you can think of, itªs ok. Iªd say about 10 / 15 sentences for a short report is about average.
Now, I have a wonderful teacher, Mrs. Davis, who taught me about good lead-ins.
#1: Open with a question.
Ex: "Do you know what you could do to survive if you were lost in the mountains?" or "Youªre the only survivor on a boat crash. What would you try to take into a lifeboat?"
#2: Open with an announcement.
Ex: "A tornado is around the area of your school. Find shelter immediately." or "Heavy flood rains are pouring down and you need to find high shelter quickly."
#3: Open with a challenging and bold statement.
Ex: "Contrary to what people may think, you have more free time than you think."
#4: Open with a quote from someone.
Ex: "ªBe ready for the time of your lifeª, my friend said as we got onto the roller coaster."
#5: Open with a riddle that the reader can grapple with.
Ex: "With one blink, I can command others to move. With another blink, others will start to wander. Some will move & some will stop. With the last blink, I can command others to stop. What am I?" or "What goes in a door, but never goes in or out?"
#6: Open with a personal experience.
Ex: "My mind was racing as I opened my birthday presents." or "Iªm glad I didnªt cry when those bullies were picking on me, though I did in my room later."
#7: Open with how you felt.
Ex: "My warm hands felt cold when the fragile glass figure broke."
#8: Make the reader feel like they are part of the story.
Ex: "I was shoved out of the classroom when the bell rang."
Donªt forget, there are so many different ways to write lead-ins, so if you think of one, tell me!
Remember, never be afraid to try something new in your writing. If you donªt like your style of writing, change it! I mean, if you write you want to enjoy it! Also, make sure your writing flows well. By that, I mean like the sentences seem to fit together almost or exactly perfectly.
But remember°¡Check Your Spelling!!!
I canªt tell you how much of a problem I had with that. Well, Iªve been blogging for a while (as you know) and Iªve seen many people come and go (Sadly, this is the year Iªm going.) but my feelings about blogging have never changed. Ok, to sum it up this way, I Love Blogging! Blogging has allowed me to express my feelings, hear what other people have to say about my work (which I dearly love) and finding out how good of a writer I was. Iªm telling you, I cannot go through a Thursday (The days I work with Mrs. Davis) without blogging. Taking away writing in my life, I would be nothing. Never think your no good at writing. Some day you might be the next Dr. Seuss. But you always have to try. Blogging allows you to have people point out mistakes, or give praise to your work. So, if you have a webblog, keep working on it. Who knows, only time can tell°¡ We now bring you back to your original program, "Blogging With Bob." "Yippee! Monday is a teacher workday!" Want to know what Im so happy about? OK, besides that the day was a "no-school" day. Well, every Monday, during the summer or holidays, My mom, sister, and I go and visit my aunts house. I know what you are thinking. "Just another visit to my boring aunts house." Well, my aunt is SO cool! She loves kids & my cousins Kim, Bear, and Cub are so much fun to play with! A usual day at my aunts usually starts off by having a pot-luck lunch at around 11:00 am. The lunch usually consists of whatever everybody brings. Most of the time, there are 2-3 pizzas, fish, cucumber and chicken. After the meal the kids usually have an ice cream! After lunch, numerous activities can occur. During the summer, Bear, Cub, Sarah, Me, and sometimes Kim go swimming in my aunts huge 10-foot deep pool! Usually we stay in for about 5 hours, sometimes longer! After swimming, we usually dry off by jumping on her trampoline or going down into her basement. In the winter and fall, we play with tons of outfits and usually we make plays & film them. My aunt bought Bear, Cub, Sarah, and I a video recorder called "Digital Blue." It records many things which you can then hook up on a computer and add cool things to them. You can add special effects, text, and put together scenes. One of the movies we made was called "The Quest for The Triforce." For all of the Zelda fans out there, you know. For those who arent, the Triforce is a magical artifact that grants you one wish when all 3 pieces are connected. It was fun to make and fun to watch! What we also do is on a Fall day, almost all of my cousins (and some brave uncles) take winter sleds and plastic kiddy pools, put 2-3 people in a sled and slide down a huge forest-like hill. It is incredibly fun! Although there is a risk of flipping over, the thrill of sliding down a steep leafy hill just overpowers you. When we aren't doing that, all of the cousins and some adults go hiking in the woods. If you go to the south of the house and you go into the woods, you see a small creek. If you follow that, after a while you see a huge hollow tree. When the family all went down there, 7 people fit into there. Seven people! Inside, you can look up and see a tunnel. It is a completely hollow tree. It is amazing! If you go west of the house, you run into the cousin-made Town Nowhere. When you look throughout he town, there will be many interesting things you will see. In one corner, there is a shop where there is a moss-covered shoe, an old baseball, a rotting tire, and a vine door. In another corner, you will see a small wooden gate and many small huts. Smack dab in the middle, you will find a stick. A white stick. The stick we dubbed "The Great White Stick". It was the stick that started it all. Well, at least started the town. Bear & Cub were looking in the newly, poorly uninspired town when they found a white stick and a metal hook-thingie. So today, the white stick is the town's symbol. If you go a little further into the woods, you meet a new place called Camp Nowhere. In the center of Camp Nowhere, there is a tire (campfire) with logs around it (seats). If you follow a small path, you will see a small ditch. This ditch is really cool. In it you will see small treasures, like bottles, cans, and other small things. One time I found a Pepsi glass bottle, and it looked really old. Thus, we named this ditch "Treasure Ditch". At my Aunt's house, there are many fun things to do. Swimming, filming, and just having fun. I'm glad I'm with my family altogether. Well, Signora! Got to go put my sun screen on!

In the High Schoolers' blogs, there were many reviews that contained interesting information. All of the reviews contained many pieces of information I have not thought about and others I have heard before and use all the time. These are very useful to use in writing so that your posts almost sound like books!
Devin's comment on Matt's site was one of my favorite though. Enticing the reader, grabbing the reader's attention, and using great leads. Some of my favorite Writing tactics.
Mallory's comment on Dana's site is interesting also. Mallory said that Dana was very passionate about the subject she was writing about. My teacher, Mrs.Mateling, always says that you have to be passionate about learning until you truly learn. I really agree with Mrs.Mateling, you really do!
Through their posts, I have learned many important lessons. There was one that really stood out though; you can never be absolutely perfect at something. You can always improve.
