Congratulations to Mrs. Folk, our 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year.
JHH and Rockdale County 2003 - 2004 Teacher of the Year, Marcia Mateling, proudly pins Mrs. Folk with her new title!
The staff of JHH had many, many good things to say as they nominated Mrs. Folk!
Martha readily accepts any challenge in that she must face. She has taught in various non-traditional classroom settings including a multi-age class in which the majority of the students did not speak English or spoke very little English. Martha set the educational ground work that helped prepare those students for success in the regular classroom setting. She established high expectations for her students despite the language barrier in both academic performance and behavior. In addition to pushing her students to succeed, Martha attempts to uncover the reasons that might be preventing a particular student from learning the required material in an expected amount of time. She provides detailed information concerning student performance and weaknesses during SST meetings - and no doubt on other occasions as needed - to assist in making recommendations for testing or other academic options. Martha genuinely cares for her students and her love of teaching is evident. She never has a "down day" and is one of the most encouraging individuals on staff at House. She is definately deserving of this honor.
Martha is always willing to take on any task given to her. Her heart is with the students of JH House. She goes beyond her responsibilities as a teacher to educate our students.
Martha goes beyond expectations to meet her students' needs. She has continually accepted and adjusted to every new situation she is presented with from moving to a trailor to teaching non-English speaking students. She takes time with her kids often before the official school day begins. She seeks advice from others. She is open to suggestions and she freely supports all her coworkers.
Martha is a real trooper! I have seen her grow over the last ten years both in her tenacity and her diagnostic ability skills. She hit the ground running when she moved from the regular classroom to the multi-age class.
She has become an advocate for all students as well as our growing Hispanic population. Martha practices what she preaches. She can be found at many school and community events supporting her students.
All teachers are envious of her dedication to her daily journal. She has become the JHH resident historian. Most of all she is a friend to the teachers - always going the extra mile to offer support - both professional and personal.
Martha always goes beyond the call of duty. She is a life-long learner who continuously takes classes to enhance the teaching of her students. She is a risk-taker who has successfully met the challenge of immersing non-English speaking students into the English language. She is a remarkable JHH historian. She is a warm, caring person. She has a wonderful sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoy any comments and presentations she shares at faculty meetings. Martha is a very dedicated and conscientious educator. She is most deserving of the honor of being our JHH Teacher of the Year.
Martha is exceptionally dedicated to her students. She is very organized. She is able to really individualize instruction for her children. She cares so much about them and their progress that she works extremely hard to be sure they get the instruction and support they need. Her students usually know that she cares about them.
Martha is always thinking abou her students. She is constantly rethinking her teaching strategies and trying to improve to benefit her students more. She is very humble and modest of her abilities and what she accomplishes. She is eager to listen to any ideas you may have to help her students.
Martha is so caring of her students that she attends many events outside of school she is invited to; be it a baby shower for a former student, a first communion, or huge 15th birthday bash. Martha is always "on" as a teacher, even when her "official" teaching hours have ended.
She goes above and beyond for our future!
Martha always goes above and beyond the call of duty. She stays at school until her last deed of the day is done. She puts forth so much effort to teaching the kids and it shows through their work in the regular classroom. Martha does everything by the book and she always does exactly what is asked of her from the administration and from the teachers.
Thank you Mrs. Folk for all the wonderful things you do for our school!

Hello,
I was a student of Mrs. Folk and Mrs. Edwards class on 5th grade. I don't know if Mrs. Folk remembers me since it has been many many years now. I was one of the non-English students in her multi-age class.
I wish to thank Mrs. Folk for her patience and dedication that she showed to a small Mexican girl at that time.
Best wishes and blessings.
