Electricity

Blog Our 4th grade teachers and students would like to send a big "Thank You" to Snapping Shoals EMC for coming out and giving an excellent presentation on electricity.  The students learned about the dangers and power of electricity just in time for the ice storm that caused many power lines to fall!  Of course, the static electricity causing Ms. McIntosh's hair to stand straight up was a huge highlight of the presentation as well!

Share Your Goodwill!

House_highlights_1 Thank you so much JHH fifth and fourth graders for "Sharing Your Goodwill"!  In December, Mrs. Goode worked many hard and long hours with the students as they recorded their very first CD.  The money raised off the sells will go to World Vision in order to provide the needs of the children in Africa.  So far, we have raised $827!  If you would like your very own copy of this outstanding CD, contact Mrs. Goode.

Beyond the Call

Dsc03238 The students and teachers of JHH know exactly who we are referring to when we say she goes "beyond the call" of duty!  Mrs. Jeanie Smith is Mrs. JH House!

Mrs. Smith was recognized by several teachers at our faculty meeting!

Jeanie Smith always works so hard and never complains.  It is so encouraging to work with her.

I want to recognize Jeanie Smith for always going BEYOND THE CALL!  Jeanie is one of the first ones here and one of the last to leave.  She is willing to do anything for anyone (and does it in record time)!  I see her working hard at all JH House functions during school and after hours!  What is more, Jeanie does this all with a smile on her face!

Mrs. Smith is a great example for our school.  Her sacrifices and heartfelt actions do not go unnoticed.  We all appreciate her hard work and her wonderful attitude!  Everyone could use a dose of Mrs. Smith!

The Big Visit!

On November 4th, JH House had the honor of hosting many special guests Hh_3including State Superintendent Kathy Cox.  Along with Mrs. Cox, Dean Alford (State Board of Education Member), Courtney Burnett (assistant to Mrs. Cox), Darlene Hotchkiss (Rockdale County Board Member), and Ruel Parker (Superintendent of RCPS) also attended.

Although there was much anticipation, Mrs. Cox and visitors were very impressed by the outstanding teaching and learning going on at our school.  Mr. Parker sums it up perfectly:

I was very, very proud of what Mrs. Cox saw during our visit.  Although each of you did not get to meet her personally, I know that each of you contributed to the success of our visit.  Over and over after we left your school, Mrs. Cox made comments about the positive things she saw and experienced at House.

It's always wonderful to look good for visitors, and I really appreciate what Mrs. Hooper and all of you did for this visit.  But more important to me is the knowledge that you didn't do anything that was really unusual for yesterday.  Everyday you are presenting great instruction in a wonderfully maintained facility and thus changing lives forever.

It was a day filled with Eagle Pride!

JHH Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Folk, our 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year.   Hh_1

JHH and Rockdale County 2003 - 2004 Teacher of the Year, Marcia Mateling, proudly pins Mrs. Folk with her new title!

The staff of JHH had many, many good things to say as they nominated Mrs. Folk!

Martha readily accepts any challenge in that she must face.  She has taught in various non-traditional classroom settings including a multi-age class in which the majority of the students did not speak English or spoke very little English.  Martha set the educational ground work that helped prepare those students for success in the regular classroom setting.  She established high expectations for her students despite the language barrier in both academic performance and behavior.  In addition to pushing her students to succeed, Martha attempts to uncover the reasons that might be preventing a particular student from learning the required material in an expected amount of time.  She provides detailed information concerning student performance and weaknesses during SST meetings - and no doubt on other occasions as needed - to assist in making recommendations for testing or other academic options.  Martha genuinely cares for her students and her love of teaching is evident.  She never has a "down day" and is one of the most encouraging individuals on staff at House.  She is definately deserving of this honor.

Martha is always willing to take on any task given to her.  Her heart is with the students of JH House.  She goes beyond her responsibilities as a teacher to educate our students.

Martha goes beyond expectations to meet her students' needs.  She has continually accepted and adjusted to every new situation she is presented with from moving to a trailor to teaching non-English speaking students.  She takes time with her kids often before the official school day begins.  She seeks advice from others.  She is open to suggestions and she freely supports all her coworkers.

Martha is a real trooper!  I have seen her grow over the last ten years both in her tenacity and her diagnostic ability skills.  She hit the ground running when she moved from the regular classroom to the multi-age class.

She has become an advocate for all students as well as our growing Hispanic population.  Martha practices what she preaches.  She can be found at many school and community events supporting her students.

All teachers are envious of her dedication to her daily journal.  She has become the JHH resident historian.  Most of all she is a friend to the teachers - always going the extra mile to offer support - both professional and personal.

Martha always goes beyond the call of duty.  She is a life-long learner who continuously takes classes to enhance the teaching of her students.  She is a risk-taker who has successfully met the challenge of immersing non-English speaking students into the English language.  She is a remarkable JHH historian.  She is a warm, caring person.  She has a wonderful sense of humor.  I thoroughly enjoy any comments and presentations she shares at faculty meetings.  Martha is a very dedicated and conscientious educator.   She is most deserving of the honor of being our JHH Teacher of the Year.

Martha is exceptionally dedicated to her students.  She is very organized.  She is able to really individualize instruction for her children.  She cares so much about them and their progress that she works extremely hard to be sure they get the instruction and support they need.  Her students usually know that she cares about them.

Martha is always thinking abou her students.  She is constantly rethinking her teaching strategies and trying to improve to benefit her students more.  She is very humble and modest of her abilities and what she accomplishes.  She is eager to listen to any ideas you may have to help her students.

Martha is so caring of her students that she attends many events outside of school she is invited to; be it a baby shower for a former student, a first communion, or huge 15th birthday bash.  Martha is always "on" as a teacher, even when her "official" teaching hours have ended.

She goes above and beyond for our future!

Martha always goes above and beyond the call of duty.  She stays at school until her last deed of the day is done.  She puts forth so much effort to teaching the kids and it shows through their work in the regular classroom.  Martha does everything by the book and she always does exactly what is asked of her from the administration and from the teachers.

Thank you Mrs. Folk for all the wonderful things you do for our school!
