The detailed account of an exploding star made 432 years ago by the great Danish astronomer Tych Brahe, together with new data from the hubble Space Telescope, the 10-meter W. M. Keck telescope and other observations is helping today's astronomers pin down the origins of supernova explosions.
An international team of astronomers led by Spain's Pilar Ruizlapuente and including U.C. Berkley's Alex Filippenko has indentified the probable surviving companion star to a Titanic supernova explosion.
