Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was probaly born 1822. Her real name was Araminta Ross.(Minty) One slaveholder's daughter fractured her skull, and gave her what we know as epilepsy.(eh-pi-lep-see) Many years later, Jonathan Walker was branded SS for Slave Stealer. Abolitionists saw it as Slave Savior. While Harriet was a slave she sang,
When that old chariot comes,
I’m gwine to leave you.
I’m bound for the Promise Land,
Friends, I’m gwine to leave you
I’ll meet you in the mornin’.
When you reach the Promised Land
On the other side of Jordan,
She died March 10, 1913. At the age of 91.
Hi Mary,
I'm glad to read your lesson about Harriet Tubman. Can you tell me more about what she did for our nation's history? Is your lesson just about Harriet Tubman? or is it about brave abolitionists? I hadn't heard of Jonathan Walker and had to look it up. Thanks for letting me know about him.
Best,
Lani

Lani,
You caught me. It is about both! She was a spy for the union.
