Update: First I want to give credit to my good friend, Clarence Fisher. He is the blogger who first shared this picture on his class blog. I knew he would understand why I couldn't give credit earlier because you would have discovered the answer. Now that would have spoiled all the fun of guessing! So in Clarence's post the answer is:
This scientist poured plaster into an anthill and then dug it up to see what the inside of it looked like. You can see all of the tunnels and the chambers.
I would like to thank Mr. Powell's class for participating with us and any others that took a guess. We might just have to try this activity again! Last count we had 56 comments! We had a lot of fun!
