Last night Mrs. Hooper (school's principal) and I met with a fantastic group of parents. I appreciate all of them finding time in their busy schedules to attend. We met in the technology lab. A brief overview of the project was given, then parents and students logged on to the site for an up close view. They were very receptive to our goals and objectives for NewsQuest. I am excited to be involved in a project that will involve the parents so closely with what we will be doing. I hope all of you will post your thoughts, ideas, insights, and whatever you would like to share. My goal is to create an interactive community in which the students will respond to current events prompts as well as to one another plus posts from parents and other interested educators and students.
CNN Student News debuts September 16th. At school, we run one day behind showing it to the students. This allows us time to preview the program and decide teaching objectives. This year is a new format for the program so we need time to decide the best educational applications for the students at J. H. House.
The new CNN Newsroom will be a streamlined, classroom-friendly commercial-free 10 minute program. This airs Monday through Friday on CNN Headline News for 3:12-3:22 AM. (set your VCRs if you wish to view the program). It will contain three, topical, educationally appropriate news stories.
The students and teachers are looking forward to making connections from current events to our curriculum.
Parents, welcome to our schoolblog! Let us hear from you. We want you actively involved so post away!
