It was the third Saturday of this month. Every third Saturday of the month my dad, sister and I go to a place to drive remote controlled boats. This time we went to a "people who have disabilities fair". Almost all the people had wheelchairs. Well after two hours of waiting, we got out the boats. Then we waited at least an hour, but soon a crowd came and we were in business. I was just walking around when I saw a boy with only feet. I was so amazed. He just had feet, no legs at all. Even his toes were deformed. He also had no arms, just hands. He only had feet and he could drive a remote control boat and his wheelchair with just his feet. He didn't have any trouble at all. At the end of the day, he turned around and I saw his name. It was Jimmy, and to this day, I think he was a hero. He could over come many hard obstacles. At the end of the day, it was worth the wait.
Emily, Your story about your hero Jimmy was very touching.I'm sure he has had enourmous obstacles to overcome in his lifetime and it sounds as though he is succeeding. If only more people were as nonjudgemental as you!!!

Hello Emily!
I love your choice of a hero! You have shown how every day people can certainly be heroes, too. I really liked what you wrote.
Your enthusiasm and hard work is wonderful. Keep it up. Have a good writing session today. I can't wait to see all of you next week.

Hi Emily,
First of all, let me say how much I enjoyed the way you opened you writing piece about your hero. Starting out with a date always makes the reader wonder what is going to happen next. I also was amazed at what physically challenged people can do when I saw the Special Olympics when they came to Atlanta in 1996. Some of the atheletes competed and broke records that many people without disabilities could not do. I watched swimming and track and field and wheelchair basketball. That was my favorite! I used to play basketball in high school and those players shot from three-point range and moved around better than some people that can walk. IT WAS THE BOMB!
I hope that you will always feel that people who overcome obstacles should be named heroes because I sure do. Take care and I will write again.
