Everyone is so excited about our upcoming presentation on weblogs at the Leadership Appreciation Night that Georgia State is sponsoring. Parents, I wish you could have seen the childrens' faces and heard the buzz in the room. We had so much discussion and thinking going on that it was hard to settle down and write! However, students, you will have that chance Tuesday night. As Emily said, "I have never had the opportunity to blog for three hours. I can't wait!" Maybe we can call this the "House Blog-a-thon" Be sure to think about the topics that you want to write about and come prepared to "knock their socks off!" These leaders will be very interested in seeing what you are doing and learning.
Your ideas and thoughts were so good today. First, having a voice, was really one of the hot items being discussed around the room. I heard you. Believe me, adults can feel the same way. Remember though, you have a forum to express your views so be clear, be interesting, and give facts to back up your opinions. Refer back to the tips on good writing on the NewsQuest site. Use that voice you have responsibly.
Next, you said having a choice was another feature you liked about what you are doing. You are all writing about current events, but you can choose the topics. Having choices is great and you are choosing some good topics. Keep it up! As Lucy, said "I'm gaining new brain wrinkles." Let's add lots more Tuesday night!
Dane pinpointed the next point. He said, "I've never had my own website before that publishes right away." Weblogs are one of the few web publishing tools that lets you do that so quickly! That is good but that means we have to really use those proofing skills before we do the final click! I have seen some improvement in your proofing work but we will really be working on that skill in the next few weeks. We can do better in this area.
Remember be thinking about the world problem topic that you are going to pursue in more depth. Choose interesting topics that you want to learn more about.
I like the way Kayla said it. "I like web blogs because I can express my feelings, and I can state my opinions about appropriate things and inappropriate things. I can say if they are cool or iffy."
I'm with you, boys and girls. I can't wait till Tuesday. Remember, you are representatives of one of the best schools in Georgia .... J. H. House Elementary School!
We thank Mrs. Hooper, the principal, for her support and help with this project.
Parents, thank you for getting back to me so promptly with your information that I needed for the event. You have wonderful children. See all of you this Tuesday evening.
