New Dino?

T-Rex. Triceratops. 4-winged dinosaurs. Oh my!

You are probably thinking, What is with the four winged dino? Well, in a site at Lation Province, Northeastern China, fossil hunters found a magnificent fossil. It was a four-winged dinosaur fossil that could show how birds evolved. This discovery has stunned many people. If the find is correct, a long and fierce debate about the origin of birds could be complete.

Hanging On

Joe R. Thompson III, 18 years old, was literally hanging on for dear life in Kansas City. Joe was in a car accident and ended up flying out of a Jeep before flipping over 5 times. The Jeep's fiberglass top flew off and he flew out. He landed on a power line holding on for dear life. For 20 minutes he held on until he was rescued by the Fire Department.

Addiction

As you all know, drugs are addicting. But could fast food be as well? Researchers who have been testing the biological effects of foods and learned they can trigger hormones. They make changes that control your eating. Fast food can deliver nearly the recommended daily calorie and fat intake in one meal. More weight creates more resistance to the hormone Lepton. This makes people gain weight. Lepton releases signals to the part of the brain that controls eating behavior. As people gain weight, they become more resistant to the hormone.

Now THINK before you EAT!

My Hero, Jimmy

It was the third Saturday of this month. Every third Saturday of the month my dad, sister and I go to a place to drive remote controlled boats. This time we went to a "people who have disabilities fair". Almost all the people had wheelchairs. Well after two hours of waiting, we got out the boats. Then we waited at least an hour, but soon a crowd came and we were in business. I was just walking around when I saw a boy with only feet. I was so amazed. He just had feet, no legs at all. Even his toes were deformed. He also had no arms, just hands. He only had feet and he could drive a remote control boat and his wheelchair with just his feet. He didn't have any trouble at all. At the end of the day, he turned around and I saw his name. It was Jimmy, and to this day, I think he was a hero. He could over come many hard obstacles. At the end of the day, it was worth the wait.

Ecotourism by Emily

Should ecotourism be encouraged or discouraged? Ecotourism is where anyone can go into tribes in the rainforests and tour the untouched land.

Yes

If people visit unspoiled land they will see nature truly. Maybe that will reduce pollution because they will see nature without pollution. Nobody wants to see the land destroyed by tourism, but nor do we want poeple to not see it at all.

No

Natural forests and waters can be destroyed. Boats can pollute the waters. Wy would the tribes in the rainforests want that to happen? Heavy tourism brings heavy pollution, litter and environmental stress to parts of its delicate ecosystem.

2002 Nobel Peace Prize Awarded :Emily

Peanut farmer from Plains Georgia wins 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. You may not know that I am talking about Jimmy Carter. Yes,he was a peanut farmer, but he would do great things after that. In 1962 he was the Senator of Georgia. During 1970, Governer of Georgia, and in 1976, he was the president of the U.S.A. The most famous thing he did during his presidency was Camp David. He used his"vacation location" to bring peace between Israel and Egypt. Sadly in 1980 he lost the presidential eleation to Regan.
Two years later, after being president, he was famous for global Humanitarian efforts(someone who thinks of others, not just themselves) like Habbitat for Humanity (helps build homes for the poor).
With his winnings,he plans to donate one million dollars (in prize money) to the Carter Center, a non profit non govermental organization. Some things the Carter Center does is have a political think-tank (somewhere you go to think about important things), and acts like a political watchdog. A political watchdog helps oversee elections in troubled countries. I am proud that a peanut farmer from Plains Georgia helped the world so much.

Emily's First News Post

First of all, I made a story called Fame and Money. I want to know how you like it.                      "Smokers"       Did you know that a 64 year old woman got $28 billion from a jury? She had lung cancer. You think well she had lung cancer,SHE GOT IT FROM SMOKING!!!! She started smokeing when she was 17 in 1955. The jury said that the cigarette dealer failed to warn her about the dangers of smoking. The dealer said that if she had quit smoking then she woulden't have had cancer. The jury was so mad they made the dealer pay the money.    The first warning on the cigarette warning was in 1965 it was just saying cigarettes might be hasarous to your health, it might be dangerous. The next warning was in 1967. It said that it was dangerous to your health and it could cause death, cancer and other diseases. It is a warning now.The next just added the Surgeons  General warning. After those millions of warnings a woman still got $28 billion and claming she wasen't warned. Even if warned we can still make wrong choices.Thats a message that everyone should know.
