Student Sings About Self Respect

This morning, Angel came up to me and showed me her song she had written about self respect. Angel is a fourth grader. She was very excited and wanted to sing her song for me. This was a great follow up to the "self respect blog". I was so impressed with Angel's song that I have asked her to sing it during morning announcements tomorrow. I thought you might enjoy her creation...

Self-respect is when you are respecting yourself
like when you are sick, you take medicine.
It shows that you have self-respect for yourself.

And when you're playing or taking a test,
and when it is really hard you say,
"I can do it and you believe in yourself."

What a great way to start the day!

Respect for Self

Respect for Self: self esteem: pride and belief in oneself and in achievement of one’s potential.

Self-respect is when you feel good inside when you behave well. It is also felt when you accomplish something that required hard work. You did the work and finished something you wanted or needed to do. It makes you feel proud inside. You show self-respect by treating your friends, teachers and family in a polite way.

You know the difference between right and wrong and a little voice inside you helps you do what is right, even when others try to get you in trouble. You respect yourself.

You know that selfishness, misbehavior, recklessness, and dishonesty are not good traits. You want to share, behave well, be careful and honest. That is showing self-respect.

You know that it is OK to make a mistake. It is just a part of life and you feel OK about yourself when you have done your very best. If you have self-respect you know that you can learn from your mistakes and do better next time.

You show self-respect when you set high standards for yourself. You always try to do your personal best!

Are you a person who has self-respect? Write a poem or song about the ways you show self-respect. If you think you need to have more self-respect, write a short paragraph about what you need to work on to have self-respect.
