This is the beginning of a learning journey with a group of high school students who are enrolled in the Teacher Cadet program. The Teacher Cadet program is an
innovative approach designed to attract talented young people to
the teaching profession through a challenging
introduction to teaching. These students are now having their beginning class to learn all about the program. Next semester they will be going out to elementary schools to work with children. They will be under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Last Friday I had a short time to meet with the class and tell them about weblogs. We plan to have each student blog their experiences. This gives those of you reading this blog the opportunity to mentor students who wish to pursue teaching as a career!
Two of the students in the class attended elementary school at J.H. House. They were in my technology classes. It was great to see them again!
I used A School of Voices to demo what a blog looks like. Katie made a comment on the blog as others watched. One or two in this group knew about blogs. Their friends had one.
Time was really short for the first session so I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow.
Each student will have a computer and they will be making their first posts. I'll add those links and this blogging experience will take off. This is going to be a good experience.I think these students' blogging about what they are thinking and learning will help us learn more on how to encourage, support and keep our "future teachers". I think they will come up with some great ideas for using blogs in their classrooms!
