Elementry Students Reflections on Weblogs

1.What have you learned?

I have learned that you should always try to do your best and not to give up.

2.How have you changed?

My writing has definitely changed. I look at it differently now & I have less mistakes and more paragraphs.

3.What has been the most challenging or frustrating thing for you and how have you met this challenge or overcome the frustration?

Choosing the topic is one of the most frustrating. I usually turn on the TV  to a news station and see what interests me.

4.How have you integrated your learning of schoolblogs with any other area of your life?

I try to use it in math and reading to write more descriptive answers to questions.

5.What skills are that you now have that you didn't have are most valubale to you now?

(see above)

6.In what ways have you become a better writer?

I learned how to write very good leads and ending paragraphs.

7. How does having a weblog effect how you learn? How does it effect how you write?

I start to look at all the things you are asked to do and I think about them more. For writing, I make the lead be extensive and for the story to be longer, but to the point.

8.If you start a weblog of you own, what topic would it be on?

I would have to say I would want to work on telling about the latest games. I would give hints walkthroughs and everything inbetween.

9. Do you have any words of wisdom for future webloggers?

All I can say is for you to not do your work the night before you have to turn it in (trust me from experence) as it's harder to do.

10.Discuss your feelings on weblogs now.

I used to think of it just to get out of class, but now I look foward to things like this...

  • to see what comments I have
  • to tell about a really neat news story
  • to learn
  • to share my thoughts and my ideas with my classmates and other people too
  • to read other peoples schoolblogs
  • to post my story and let my voice be heard
  • to keep discovering new ways to improve my writing

The contents of this interview published by Emily and Kent are solely the responsibility of the weblog authors for the posting on simulated interviews with our teachers. Statements made and opinions expressed in these interviews are based on what we believe would be the responses of our teachers.  This activity was developed to help us develop good questions for interviews and then write the interview in a form that would be clear, concise, and interesting for our teacher and others to read.  We, of course, are trusting that our teacher will enjoy this activity as much as we have. We really hope our teacher will agree that our answers could be her answers and will be amazed at how well we have come to know her!  We would like to dedicate this post to Mrs.Barandiaran and say thank you for a wonderful year.

An Interview with Ms.Barandiaran

Today Kent and I are going to simulate an interview with our teacher (see title). It will consist of 10 questions with what we think the answers are. Maybe I can compare our answers to our teachers. At the end we will add a disclaimer with the interview. We learned about them in class today and I have read many of them. Well here is our simulated interview. I hope the questions Kent and I (Emily) are helpful for you if you ever do an interview.

Kent and Emily's Interview with Mrs.Barandiaran

Kent and Emily:When you started teaching did you have to make any sacrifices to work?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Yes, when I started teaching I had to give up spending time with my husband and my family.

Kent and Emily: Why did you choose to become a teacher?

Mrs.Barandiaran: The reason I did was because I love kids. I thought teaching would be the best for me.

Kent and Emily: Did you always look forward to the next day of teaching?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Yes, everyday I do, but Friday I look forward to the best 'cause I can go home.

Kent and Emily: Have you ever felt sorry for a student who was failing school?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Of course I would, I really try hard to help them, but in the end I give them the grade they make.

Kent and Emily: Did you ever get tired of working?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Why would I say no? People always get tired.

Kent and Emily: Do you sometimes regret being a teacher?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Yes sometimes I have, sometimes it has been so stressful, I could burst out with anger.

Kent and Emily: When you were young, did you ever dream of teaching?

Mrs.Barandiaran: When I was in fourth grade I had a dream that I was teaching fifth graders and they smiled the whole time.

Kent and Emily:How many years did you stay in college?

Mrs.Barandiaran: I stayed in 4-5 years in college. It was hard work.

Kent and Emily: Which grade did you want to teach first?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Really I wanted to do fifth, but any grade is fine with me.

Kent and Emily:When you were in school, did any teacher inspire you to teach?

Mrs.Barandiaran: Actually my fifth grade teacher did.

Haiku in the News

Today I am going to post a haiku about an article telling how kids clean their neighborhood up. The article was found at Time for kids and the title is Building a Better World. It really grabbed my attention. You should try to read it to sometime.

As you may know a haiku has a specific pattern. Here it is,

First line-5 syllables

Second line-7 syllables

Last line-5 syllables

Got it?

 This is my haiku!!!

                A Better World

             Camille and Wissam

They are all just kids who care

            About the whole world

(A Better World is the title so it does not have to be limited to so many syllables.)

SARS

How would you like getting infected by this flu? SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). It has infected over 1,600 and has killed over 60 people

Starting in Asia, SARS has been caught from people riding in planes. It has been caught from China and spread to Canada.

Reports of SARS have been around for about two weeks. The reportings of SARS has reduced the purchase of airline tickets from 500 a month to 100. The travel agency went from having 100 new people arriving in China a month to only 10.

Hong Kong has the most reported cases of SARS, which totals 530 cases and 13 deaths. Keven Stark, an American citizen replies to the message Hong Kong is very crowded. If you fly there, you will probably catch it.

Now that the first case has been reported in Atlanta, Georgia, people are starting to panic.

Will we end up wearing masks in the streets?

What will you do?

TV Topic

This is my news lead about the topic The Effects of TV on Children. Here it goes!

On an average basis, how many kids out of 17 watch 3-4 hours of TV a day? Also by the time of graduation, they have watched 15,000 hours of TV compared to 11,000 hours of school?

Guess what, 6 out of 17 do.

 Major couch potato!

War On People

War On People

Can war change your life when it is on the other side of the world?

Well, for many people it has. Jessica Georgenton of Atlanta, Georgia had planned to visit Vietnam over the spring break, but her fears of the war kept her back home.

War & terrorism are forcing thousands of Americans to change their spring breaks. Many people are reluctant to go to the Middle East because of war. People are also choosing to drive rather than fly to their destinations because of possible terrorism on planes.

People now are usually going to other places in the U.S. and Caribbean. But some people even thought those places are safe. Julie Silver delayed her trip to New York and went to Universal Studios instead.

People think terrorism is everywhere. They buy duct tape to seal their doors and windows. But Julie said,Try not to be paranoid. You try to think there is a greater chance of being hit by a bus, but it still makes you nervous. That apprehensiveness, it is not worth it

Now think about the war. It is not like it is at your front door.

Soon we will probably be scared to leave to get our mail. Then we might become too scared to be in our homes.

If we give into fear, terrorism has won, wherever war is.

Smart is Back

This is a homework assignment that we had to do for Ms. Davis. I hope I added all the info I needed to add. Well here it is

                  Smart is Back

"It's real, it's real. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am. What an absolute miracle." These were some of the words Elizabeth SmartØ's dad spoke when she was found. Taken from her bedroom in Salt Lake City, Utah at knifepoint on  June 5, 2002, she is now safely home.

Brian David Mitchell took Elizabeth Smart. He is a 43-year-old handyman that begged for work off the street and worked one day at the Smart house. Also charged was Mitchell's wife Wanda Barzee.

Elizabeth is believed to have been taken to be one of MitchellØ's wives in his plan to have 49 wives.

Now after nine months, Elizabeth is home safe and happy - playing her harp again. The family expressed their gratitude for the extensive media coverage and prayers to help find Elizabeth

For all those who are still looking for loved ones, don't give up hope

We will not live in fear.

                We are watching.

                We are united.

                We are praying.

We will never ever give up

                We are all family.

This touched me. If you have a heart, you will be touched like I was.

News Lead 2

Why is North Korea still making and shooting off nuclear weapons into the sea when the U.S. has been threading them time after time.

This is my news lead. Hopefully they tell who, what, when, where, & why.

I am not sure if it tells when yet.

Also I am not sure if I put in why either.
